I recently found a JD 1050 around 1982 Model. It is 4WD and has a JD Front Loader. Not sure about the hours, but the man wants $7,500. Is this a fair price? Also, can anyone give me some general information on an '82 1050? Horsepower, etc.?

Sounds very good, depending on condition of course... Does it have power steering? A small tractor with a loader and 4wd can be a bear to drive without PS.I just paid about $12000 for an 87 with ~1800 hours (4WD, loader, PS) that was in fairly good shape, it had been neglected a little in the past few years, but seems to be ok. I also got a brand new 6 foot Woods finishing mower included.My 1050 manual clams 36 engine hp and a little over 30 pto hp IIRC If you get a used diesel, the first thing you should do (IMO) is change all the filters, especially the hydraulic and air filters. The outer air filter was totally clogged with red clay and the front end loader doubled in power and speed after I changed the clogged up filter.The other tip is, both my 1050 and my dad's 850 wouldn't stay at pto rated engine speed because the fuel feed lever friction was too low... that is easily fixed once you realize it can be adjusted.I love the 50 series JDs, I grew up (I'm only 25) using my dad's 850, and I now have a 1050 of my own (boy is dad jealous). The only problem we ever had with the 850 was the brakes were worn out and we put off fixing them since we lived on level land (low country Sout Carolina). My youngest brother was pushing debris into a 15 foot deep manure pit once and pushed a little too close to the edge. As my brother bailed out the back, the tractor rolled on over the edge and fell down the 15 foot cliff, breaking the front axle. The front end loader kept the tractor from flipping over frontwards, but it was months before we managed to dig out the forks that had been attached to the bucket. They were stabbed pretty deep into the old manure and clay in the bottom of the pit.FIX THOSE BRAKES!!!! Either the original fall broke the axle, or the second one when we had pulled the 850 almost all of the way out of the pit and the chain broke, dropping it 15 feet again... :) ....

When you read this post along with the one above about disconnecting the john deere loader hoses under pressure, it makes one wonder if we don't need a waiting period along with perhaps a background check before anyone is allowed to buy a tractor ....

I have an 850, like it real well, but I have the same problem with the throttle lever slacking off. How did you fix it? I've tinkered with it some, but haven't been able to fix it. ....

The nut that adjusts the fuel feed lever tension, (on the 850) is the big nut that holds the whole fuel feed lever assembly together. If you notice, there is a hole in the side of the tractor just behind this big nut. Remove the panel (4 bolts IIRC) directly forward of the gear shift, under the steering wheel to get access to the back of the hole. Stick the right sized socket through the hole and tighten the nut down until the tension is where you want it. ....

Ken, Accidents happen, and most of them are preventable. Tractors kill people every day, mostly because the operator did something they shouldn't have. If you've never done something stupid that you should have know better than to do, then you must either be very young or very good at fooling yourself. You also must live in Europe, in America, we don't need Socialists passing laws to protect us from ourselves. What we do need is for people to take a little responsibility for their actions. If I kill myself because I did something stupid, fine, maybe it will do the gene pool a favor.Perhaps you would like to contribute something useful to this forum, even a stupid tractor story that we might learn something from, instead of making yourself feel superior by spouting socialist nonsense. ....
